An attack on Collins Investigations has left Sam Brook in the hospital and Esther Friedman injured. With snipers firing from a building across the way, in a rapid response Nicole Collins and Rhyaad de’Annar quickly handled the situation – but bullets taken from the scene have Rhyaad concerned. The shells were Mark IV anti-vampire rounds used exclusively by the EUMO. Rhyaad has decided to check with his contact in the EUMO Special Agent Daan Peeters to try and determine how it is possible that a sniper in Collinsport has access to such lethal ammunition.

The phone lying on a neatly arranged desk has a decidedly European ringtone to it as it continues to ring.

A hand lifts the phone and Agent Peeters of the EUMO answers, “Hallo. Dit is Daan Peeters spreekt. Kan ik u helpen?”

Rhyaad smiles, “Hello, This is Rhyaad de’Annar. I think you remember me.”

Peeters’ nods, his voice tired, “De’annar? Ah yes. From New York.”

On the line Rhyaad can hear a woman’s voice in the background, “Wie is het, mijn lieve?”

“Een kennis van het werk.” Agent Peeters replies to her.

Rhyaad can hear the woman sigh.

“What can I do for you at this hour Mr De’annar?”

“I’m in Collinsport, actually. Maine. And I’m afraid that it is you who might have a problem, Mr. Peeters.”

“Might I?” Rhyaad can hear footsteps now as the man moves about his house, an opening door and a click of a lamp being turned on.

“This special anti-vampire ammo that you make, it’s not supposed to just happen to turn up in the hands of certain assassins in Maine who may or may not be associated with the Starry Wisdom cult, is it?”

“The Anti-vampire round Mark V?” Peeters says, “No, it is only used by EUMO operatives.”

“Mark IV, actually”

“The Mark IV? Hmm…let me see,” Rhyaad can hear now papers being shuffled about.

“I figure that someone somehow appropriated it from your organization, or one of your agents. And by that, I mean steal. Do you have any supplies missing? Any agents missing?”

‘Well. Mr. de’Annar, we give the older versions to local law enforcements across Europe to be used in emergencies . . . ah yes. Now that you mention it, a police station in Prague, the Czech Republic it was attacked by thugs a few months ago, and some of the rounds where among things stolen. It was mostly the prisoner release they where worried about, but . . .”

Rhyaad listens as more papers are shuffled about, “Ah yes. Here we go. All prisoners were found, and all the property accounted for except for one box of rifle and pistol ammo. Mark IV’s”

“A police station attacked by thugs? That is highly unusual, isn’t it, Agent Peeters? And what prisoner was released?”

“Oh, all the prisoners where released.”

“All?”

“I understand that there have been attacks in your Massachusetts city police station before. Attacks on police stations are also quite common when the city is experiencing riots, which such as happened several months ago.”

“Well, how secure is this line, Peeters? Daan? May I call you Daan? You know why the stations were attacked here and it had nothing to do with riots. Or do you know?

“Ah, this is my cell phone, all I heard about the attacks is what was published by the press, and it is 3:00 in the morning here.”

“Oh . . . sorry for the time difference. The police station here in Arkham—well it was apparently attacked by vampires after some prisoner. And I don’t believe’ thugs’ attacked a station there. You know, I am thinking of coming there. To Prague. Perhaps we could set up a meeting?”

“What could make one prisoner so important to launch such an attack?’

‘They still don’t have a clue, Peeters.”

There is a moment of silent, and then, “Yes—January 2nd is good day for me. Meet me at the EUMO office in Prague around midday. Local time.

“January 2nd.”

“Is there anything else I can help you with before I go back to sleep now?”

“I shall plan on seeing you then sir . . . Let me see, yes, I’m on Flight 1586, arriving at 12:12. Apologies for awakening you. But under the circumstances it was possible that one of your agents had been murdered and his ammo stolen, so I thought it best to call you.”

“Thank you for the concern. I am sorry that our equipment was used against you. Good night Mr De’Annar.”

“Fortunately none of us were killed. Samantha and Esther were injured. Goodnight, Mr. Peeters.”
