Woonsocket. Nicole Collins finds herself now alone. In order to elude the Boston police after the fire at Pickman’s studio and the high-speed chase that ensued, she had been forced to dump her car into Boston’s Back Bay. Thus she has had to out run the rising sun, and so she has sought shelter in a cheap motel in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Her ultimate destination is Providence, where she seeks what she has been told by Madam Vadoma are the secretive “Powers That Be” within New England. But before doing so, she needs to contact Rhyaad.

Rhyaad answers his phone with an air of incredulity in his voice. “H… Hu…. Hello?”

“Rhy, Good evening, this is Nikki.” She says standing in the cold parking lot watching the red-haired prostitute lean into the car that has stopped in the parking lot of the motel in which she is staying.

“Nikki? How is that possible . . .. NIKKI! YOU’RE ALIVE!” he shouts. “What happened? Did you make it out of Boston? Are you in Boston? Have you been arrested? Did you have to burn the car? I forgot the camera—do you have it? Where are you? Are you Safe? Where’s Sam? Is she with you? Is she OK? Are you OK?” He questions began to fly rapidly.

“I am in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.”

“Rhode Island—so you’re not in Boston! You Escaped! You didn’t burn up in the sun. YAY!” He says ecstatic. “Woonsocket, now where in the Hells is that?”

“It is possibly one of the most horrible places in New England, I think.” Nikki tells him, “I am sorry, but my battery is red lining so I don’t know how much time I have. But – I wanted you to know . . . I am headed to Providence, Rhode Island.

“PROVIDENCE !!! NO! NO! NOOOOOooo!!!” His volume almost blows the iPhone’s speaker. “Nyarlathotep is in Providence!”

“What?”

“Hells yes! Nyarlathotep. “

“What are you talking about Rhy?”

“Nyarlathotep he is going to Providence, Meili heard him say so.“

“What are you talking about?”

“I had this wild call from Meili. He claims he saw Nyarlathotep himself.”

“Nyarlathotep?” Nikki asks trying to be sure she understands him. “How did he meet him? Where did he meet him?”

Nikki looks around the parking lot.

The red-haired prostitute has made a date as the car pulls into a parking slot and she walks the driver over to Room 4.

“He says he just showed up at the office.”

“Our office?” Nikki’s bright sapphire eyes begin to grow darker as she becomes more wary, looking around cautiously.

“And worse, he says Nyarlathotep told him that he is displeased with Blair. That apparently Blair is screwing up Nyarlathotep’s plans. Therefore, says Meili, we should not interfere with Blair and just let him do his murderous sacrifices and what not.”

“What” Nikki cocks her head and presses the phone closer to her ear as if she did not hear him correctly? “No, no, that is wrong – that has to be wrong. Where is Meili?”

“On his way to Providence. He overheard N-tep saying that was where he was headed and so he’s gone there thinking he can kill him. The Idiot! The suicidal idiot!”

“Rhy – this is all wrong,” Nikki says, “Tell me—what was really said?”

“I don’t know. Really. His message was very disjointed. Almost hysterical.”

“I am sorry, but you say Meili said Nyarlathotep is displeased with Blair, and yet he wants Blair left alone – no, no, that does not sound right.”

“No . . . NO . . . “ Rhyaad says, “It’s MEILI. Meili says he wants Blair left alone because Nyarlathotep doesn’t like what Blair is doing. And so, Meili says that anything Nyarlathotep doesn’t like must be good for us – you see . . . you see the logic. But the problem is, Nyarlathotep is a liar. And so how do we know that who or whatever it was that really spoke to Meili isn’t double-crossing us? You know, I mean maybe, it’s telling us he wants us to stop Blair so we WON’T stop Blair?”

“Rhy, Rhy” Nikii says and shakes her head, “This is all wrong. No, no, listen to me. You cannot listen to Meili. He has his own agenda when it comes to Nyarlathotep. Look, I am sorry . . . I’m not there – I have to find someone. I have to set up a meeting here in Providence. So I need you to take charge of things there in Collinsport.”

“What? Who is that Nikki?”

“He is known as the Metropolitan.”

“The Metropolitan? Who or what is that?”

“Let’s just say he represents certain powers, alliances here in New England.”

“No, let me come down there – don’t try going to see this – this Metropolitan alone.”

“I am sorry but I have to see him alone . . . this is a trip I have to make.”

“How do you know the “Metropolitan” you should meet isn’t Nyarlathotep?” He asks, “How do we know anything anymore? Gods –this is so . . . .”

“Rhy listen to me, my phone is going to go out any moment,” Nikki tells him, “The important thing is you need to protect Esther—and I know that is not going to be easy as she is so self-sufficient, but you must keep her safe— if Blair decides to come at us, she is the one I would think he would go after. He knows how important she is to me. And, I need you to find Lillian Snow – Vera Endecott.”

“Lillian Snow?” Rhyaad asks, “Listen Nikki this is not making much sense. What do we care about Lillian Snow – I mean we’ve got Blair and N-tep to worry about.”

“She is the key, Rhy, without here there can be no trade, and you have to find her.”

“I . . . I’ll try . . . as soon as I get out of here. Okay, so how is Sam?”

Nikki shakes her head, “Samantha? She is not with you?”

“No, she’s gone to Boston to look for you.”

“I am not in Boston!” Nikki sighs. “Look – I have to find the Metropolitan, and then I will be heading to Innsmouth – which I am not looking forward to at all as I have heard it is not safe even for the undead.”

“Innsmouth? Nikki, you make this all sound worse and worse! Meili has gone to Providence to try and kill N-tep. And this man you’re going to meet might even be him. And Gods! Now, you’re going to Innsmouth?”

“Well Rhy, I think things are starting to either come together or some things are now starting to fall apart – your attack on the Cranshaw House has apparently put things into motion.”

“It sounds more like you’re about to get killed.”

“If you get in touch with Meili tell him to head to Innsmouth, I may need him there – Nyarlathotep is not going to be anywhere Meili thinks he would be. And if you hear from Samantha – tell her to go back to Collinsport!”

“Please be careful with this so called person you have to visit. Don’t be surprised if you see me in Providence. Or if you don’t.”

“At the moment I would say the important thing is to watch Esther, and you have to find Vera Endecott – Lillian Snow.”

“I wish you wouldn’t go to Innsmouth. And I do need to protect Esther. And burn those damn films.”

“No, hold on to those until I give you the word on them – I am not uncertain Natasha might not still be saved.”

“From what I surmise, Blair may be able to make monsters pop from image to reality with this film and projector. We can’t have that happening.”

“Well – okay burn them . . . but not the one called The Hounds Daughter.”

“That’s the Worst one!”

“Rhy!”

“OK, OK…. I’ll bury it.”

“If all goes well I should be back In Collinsport by the weekend, I hope . . . depending on what happens in Innsmouth. And Rhy—find Lillian Snow. It is important that you find her.”

“Be . . . Be careful, Nichole! Adonia protect you! You may be facing these ancient god-like monsters.”

“Let me know if anything happens, see you very soon.”

Nikki’s battery goes dead.
